The Cayman Islands specialise in sun, sea and sand, so don’t forget your swimsuit on a trip to this Caribbean destination. In fact, Grand Cayman is home to the award-winning Seven Mile Beach, crowned one of the Caribbean’s best beaches. Here you can tuck in to seafood in a restaurant overlooking the ocean, try your hand at water sports, and join a game of beach volleyball.
But there’s more to the Cayman Islands than just the beach scene. Start your holiday to Grand Cayman on a flight with British Airways from London and you’ll land in just over 12 hours. The capital, George Town, has loads on offer. Tick off luxury shopping outlets, art galleries and the Grand Cayman National Museum, plus pick up local crafts and food at the island’s Farmers’ Market. And for a break that’s a little more off the beaten track, venture over to sister isles Little Cayman or Cayman Brac.
The average flight time from London Heathrow to Owen Roberts International Airport in the Cayman Islands is around 12 hours with a quick stop on the way.
It’s cheapest to fly to the Cayman Islands outside of high season, which takes place from December to March. Check for flights in April onwards using our low fare finder.
You can make your trip to the Cayman Islands budget-friendly by planning ahead. Travel outside of the Caribbean’s busy season – which takes place from December to April – and pick an all-inclusive hotel. That way, your food and drink will be covered before you travel. There are lots of free beaches to explore during the day and you can hike the Mastic Trail to spot local wildlife.
The easiest way to get around the Cayman Islands is by renting a car. And the good news is, it’s just like being at home. You’ll drive on the lefthand side of the road and use roundabouts.
If you’d rather not rent a car, you can get from the airport to your hotel in a taxi or shuttle bus.
If stretching out on powdery white sands sounds like your perfect kind of getaway, the Cayman Islands should be at the top of you must-visit list. But there's so much more to the islands than just beaches. Book a rum distillery tour, catch local live music downtown, or even take a cooking class to try your hand at making traditional Cayman cuisine.
