You pay with your Avios plus a cash amount for taxes, fees and carrier charges.

You can use your Avios to upgrade a regular cash booking to the next cabin, where there’s availability, on selected fares with British Airways, Iberia and American Airlines.

Spending Avios FAQs
You can book a Reward Flight starting at just £1 and 18,500 Avios, or you can reduce the cash price of your flight with as little as 1,000 Avios. On Reward Flights you use only Avios and pay taxes, fees and carrier charges.
You can also book flights with our Reward Flight Saver – pay a fixed cash cost, inclusive of taxes, fees and carrier charges, plus an Avios amount.
Travel to Europe, UK and Ireland from £1 and 18,500 Avios or from just £100 and 50,000 Avios for destinations further afield.
Reward Flight Saver is also available in premium economy (World Traveller Plus), business (Club Europe) and business (Club World). Treat yourself to a business (Club World) seat from £350 plus 160,000 Avios.

You can also reduce the price of regular flight or holiday bookings by paying part of the price in Avios. The more Avios you use, the less you have to pay.
When you shop online with British Airways, you can collect up to 15 Avios for every £1 you spend on your favourite brands, with over 1,500 online retailers including Apple, John Lewis & Partners, Selfridges and Marks and Spencer.

You can upgrade to business (Club World) using Avios when you book or later on by logging into Manage My Booking, depending on availability.
The Avios amount required for the upgrade is based on the Avios costs for Reward Flights in the cabins you’re upgrading from and to and will depend on whether your flight is scheduled on a peak or off-peak date.
The formula is: Avios for the cabin you wish to upgrade to – Avios for the cabin you make your booking in = Avios required to upgrade one way.
